About Lost in Madeira

Discover a different Madeira

I’m Vítor Serrão, founder of Lost In Madeira and a certified local guide.

Lost In Madeira was born from more than three years of exploring the island on foot, away from the most obvious routes and the busiest areas.

During that time, I explored more than 280 different trails in Madeira: levadas, footpaths, mountains, forests, tunnels, waterfalls and paths that reveal a calmer, more authentic island.

This experience gave rise to a carefully curated selection of hikes for couples and experienced walkers who are looking for more than the usual tourist sights.

Before each hike, I check the weather conditions and the state of the trails, choosing the best option so that every experience is safe, responsible and genuine.

Each route is chosen for its landscape, its atmosphere and the feeling it leaves at the end of the day. The aim is not to cover kilometres for the sake of it. It is to walk through special places, at the right pace, with time to look around, take photos and enjoy nature.
A more personal experience

More than following a trail

More than following a trail
Each hike is designed to feel like discovering Madeira with a local friend, not on a standard tourist excursion.

We work with small groups, which makes for a calmer, closer and more flexible day. There is room to adjust the pace, stop when it’s worth it, take in the landscape, take photos and enjoy the route without rushing.

Transport from Funchal is included, so the experience starts simply and without worries. During the hike, I share stories about the island, curiosities about the levadas, the Laurissilva forest, the flora and the landscapes we find along the way.

We walk with respect for nature, following a Leave No Trace: approach: stay on the trails, leave no waste and preserve the places we came to discover.
